Happy New Year! 2018 is here and it’s about time to start making your resolutions for what to change this year. If you’re wanting to go green in 2018 consider these 5 ways you can help to make a difference in your community!
1) Volunteer in your local community!
Volunteer events provide an opportunity for you to serve others as well as your community. What better way to make a difference in your community than to give back? Check out these links to find a volunteer event in your area!
2) Commit to recycle.
Recycling is another way you can make a difference in your community. By recycling, the materials you use are reused instead of thrown in a landfill. If you already recycle, that’s great! However, if you don’t, keep in mind that most municipalities offer recycling services. In the case that yours doesn’t — don’t fret. Create your own separate containers for recyclables and take them to your local recycling center. Recycling centers will gladly accept your recyclable goods – some will even pay you for materials like aluminum cans. Click here to find a local recycling center near you. A way that you can help yourself stay on top of recycling is by clearly labeling a separate recycling can. Not only will this make it easier for you, but it will also make it easy for any guests!
3) Go paperless!
Going paperless will allow you to cut down on your footprint this year and paperless options are becoming increasingly available. Banks, companies, restaurants, airlines, concerts, and sporting events, along with many other services are now providing a way to receive paperwork via email. The before mentioned services also offer electronic or online services that eliminate the need to use paper products via website or smartphone apps. Another way to be paperless is by using reusable shopping bags! This will help you avoid plastic bags as well as paper bags on your next trip to the store. If you aren’t ready or able to go completely paperless, you can recycle your old mail and still be green. Lighten your load and your footprint this year by going paperless!
4) Conserve energy and save!
There are a few things you can change about your daily routine that could not only save resources but also save you money!. Some small daily changes include; turning off the faucet when you brush your teeth, defrost your food in the refrigerator, make sure your dishwasher/washing machine are full before washing, take showers instead of baths, turn off lights when you aren’t in the room and use motion sensors for your outdoor lighting. 75% of electric consumption is from items that are plugged in but powered off. Despite being powered off these electronics will still draw electricity. To avoid this invest in a power strip and turn the strip off when electronics are not in use. This will keep electronics plugged in, but won’t drain energy.
5) Drive green.
You can drive green this year by simply filling up your vehicle with Purpose at one of The PRIDE Stores. Filling up with Purpose can reduce your carbon emissions by up to 30%! Same quality fuel, lower emissions!
Happy Green 2018!
